Welcome to Grace Of God Philanthropic Foundation Orphanage Cameroon (GRAGOPF).

Grace of God Philanthropic Foundation Orphanage is a vision given by God to take care of orphans and less privileged children.

As it is written in the word of God in Exodus 22:22, “ye shall not afflict any widow or fatherless child”. As we are running this vision by faith depending only on God, we pray that you too can be a part of the vision by helping us in any way you can, and above all pray for us for his grace.

Snail Project

Project for Snail Farm for GRAGOPF

Project goal:

GRAGOPF Snail farm is aimed at improving the children’s nutrition, sustainability of the orphanage, and income generation for the orphanage.

Objectives:

–          Fight against malnutrition

–          To alleviate poverty and improvement of living conditions among the orphans

–          To reduce stress on the management

–          To create a sustainable and self-sufficient program

Background of the Project:

GRAGOPF started in 2004 in Buea, Cameroon. The temporary site of GRAGOPF is about 200 metres away from the popular site in Bokoko Village – Buea. It has an enrolment of 29 children of both sexes with the youngest 10 months old and the oldest about 18 years old.

Management Strategy:

The social affairs office is aware of the nutritional, educational and health crisis of the orphans.

Project Need:

The project is needed because the children in the orphanage are currently not getting enough protein in their diets. This project would make snails, which are high in protein content, readily available to them. Currently, a balanced diet is hard to maintain because of the high cost of foods that are high in protein compared to the price of foods that contain carbohydrates and starches, which is what most of the children’s diet currently consists of because it is less expensive and makes them feel full. A balanced diet for children is extremely important so that they receive the nutrients they need to grow and be healthy.

These children are already considered “vulnerable” because of the lives they are born into. We hope to provide for their needs and to care for them as best we can so that they may lead strong, independent and healthy lives. As orphans, it is also important that they learn or trade a skill while they are living here so that they are not dependent on the orphanage for support after they reach adulthood. Because the children do not have families, often times orphans are forced to remain in orphanages because they have nowhere else to go and have no other skill set. They need a skill or trade that would generate income and a livelihood to support them and become independent.

The crisis that the children face in regards to nutrition and poverty creates great stress on the management of the orphanage as well.

Impact of the Project:

The orphanage will benefit from this farm by generating a small income for the upkeep of the farm as well as to cover the cost of other needs that the children have. It will also help to create a more sustainable and self-sufficient organization.

The children at the orphanage will benefit from this project by gaining the more balanced, nutritious and healthy diet that they need in order to grow and be healthy, successful children. They will also learn the skills that needed in order to farm. This will benefit them so that they may have a skill in order to be independent in the future as they enter adulthood.

The community will benefit from the better care of the children at the orphanage. They will also benefit from the orphanage selling the surplus crop to them. In the long-term, they will benefit by having more productive and independent members of their society when the children enter adulthood.

This program would also help to relieve some of the stress that is created on the management by giving the children more enriching foods and creating a small income that would support the orphanage. Overall it will create a more sustainable and successful program at the orphanage, which will contribute to a generally more healthy environment for the children that the orphanage is supporting.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

The Management at GRAGOPF will take total responsibility to follow up the project until the end. Reports will be given as the project progresses.
